What age do you start dance classes? We offer dance and movement class for all ages. Grown Up and me is for children starting at 18 months with a caregiver. Preschoolers and toddlers can join AcroDance. We even offer classes for adults.
How much does it cost? Tuition is broken down by the time that dancers are in class. The more classes a dancer (or a family) takes, the less the cost is per class. Certain classes that are only offered for a limited time are a set fee.
What should my child wear for dance class? Dancers may choose one of 2 dress codes. 1. Traditional dance wear- Leotard/ Biketard/ Dance Dress and tights 2. Leggings/ Shorts and a t-shirt or tank top All clothing should be comfortable to move in but not baggy. Shirts should be long enough to tuck in for acro classes. All dancers with long hair must put hair back in a ponytail or braid for class.
Do you have classes for boys? While we do not have any classes exclusively for boys, we welcome them into all of our classes. Dance has benefits for all children. Dance builds confidence, coordination, strength, discipline, and teamwork. The most popular classes for boys are Hip Hop, Acro, and Tap.
How long does dance run? Dance classes start in September and run until our recital in June. We welcome new students until February 15th. Our fall session runs from September through December. Our Spring session runs from January to June. Most students dance the full year, but some just opt for one session or the other. The schedule of classes remains the same for both Fall and Spring. but we do occasionally add new classes with each session. Our summer programs vary from one day camps to eight week programs.
What is the "recital"? Is it expensive? The recital is our end of the year performance where the dancers have a chance to show off everything they have learned during the year. While there are some costs associated with the recital, costumes and tickets primarily, we aim to make it as affordable as possible. Part of our studio mission is to make dance accessible to everyone. The recital performance is optional.
Do you compete? No, our studio is not a competitive studio. We do offer a performance company for dancers that want more performance opportunities. Our performance company has danced at Kennywood, local nursing homes, and community events.
